Hobbes being an atheist, he believed that humans are innately selfish and bad. This influenced his decisions on the idea that rights are based on the king and that the king will provide protection from ourselves. Hobbes didn't really believe in faith, where Hobbes explains that “certain texts of Holy Scripture,” as “outworks of the enemy” meaning that he thought that these texts give reason for parliament to declare their right of power. This is evident from Hobbes ending with the lines “Your most humble and obedient servant” to a fellow royalist Francis Godolphin. (Hobbes, xiii-xiv).
Locke being a christian, he believed that everyone is entitled to freedom of speech, thought, religion, and property. Being christian influenced his decisions on the idea that individual’s rights is given by God. He believes that no one has the right to take that away from anyone.
